Six steps from consultation to going home
- Consultation and decision. Your Lotus doctor explains the diagnosis, options and why a procedure is advised. Take time to ask questions or seek a second opinion.
- Estimate and insurance. The team prepares an itemised estimate and starts cashless pre-authorisation if you are insured.
- Pre-operative tests. Blood tests, ECG and other checks are arranged, and an anaesthesia assessment confirms you are ready.
- Admission day. Arrive at the time given with documents and medicines. Registration, consent and preparation take place before the procedure.
- Procedure and recovery. After the procedure you are monitored until stable. The doctor updates your family.
- Discharge and follow-up. You go home with written instructions, medicines and a follow-up appointment, usually within one to two weeks.

PATIENT QUESTIONS
Admission questions
How do I plan an admission at Lotus?
Start with a consultation. If the doctor advises a procedure, the care team gives you an itemised estimate, checks your insurance, books pre-operative tests and fixes the admission date and time with fasting instructions.
Can a family member stay with the patient?
Usually one attendant can stay with an admitted patient. The care team explains visiting arrangements for your ward or room when you plan the admission.
What should I bring for admission?
Bring photo ID, your insurance card, all current medicines in their strips, previous reports and scans, comfortable loose clothing, toiletries and a phone charger. Leave jewellery and valuables at home.
How long before surgery should I stop eating?
Your anaesthetist gives exact instructions. Commonly, solid food stops about six hours before anaesthesia and clear fluids about two hours before. Do not stop prescribed medicines unless told to.
What happens at discharge?
You receive a discharge summary, prescriptions, wound-care and activity instructions, warning signs to watch for, and your follow-up date. Insurance paperwork is completed before you leave.
